Advancing Mental Wellbeing

At Big Horn County School District #1 we understand that our vision statement "Preparing each student to successfully live and contribute in an ever changing world." applies to more than just supporting academic preparations and includes building up the wellbeing of the whole student including their mental and behavioral health.

If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts or any other form of mental crisis, please call 988. The 988 lifeline can be a source of emotional support and resources. Trained staff can assist in a crisis situation, connect individuals to community resources, or connect you to emergency assistance.

Student Resources

School Based Referral: Due to WY Dep. Of Health Behavioral Health reform (active July 2024) , Big Horn County School District #1 can make a referral on behalf of students placing them in a "Priority One Populations" eligible for state funded resources. Contracts are with state Community Care Centers including "The Oxbow Center" and "Central Wyoming Counseling Center" offering in person and telehealth therapy counseling options for students. Please contact your child's school counselor for referral documents.

Resource Media Library :supplies videos, podcast, articles and more addressing student behavioral health topics. Find content addressing motivation, growth mindset, self confidence, technology wellness, sleep, family and friend relations and many more issues students deal with.

Care Solace: is a free, confidential service that connects students to mental health providers and substance use treatment depending on personal, insurance and cultural needs. School counselors can make a warm hand off referral with the permission of a students family

Parent Resources

Parent Guidance: is a module based learning platform directed to parents to learning about their teen or child's behavioral health needs. Parent Guidance free, on demand courses address needs ranging from anxiety and depression, addiction, body image, behavior, bullying, grief and loss, mindfulness, stress, suicide ideation, and much more. Helping parents learn how to support their child.

Resource Media Library: offers videos, podcast, articles and more addressing student behavioral health topics. Rather than search for materials on your own, scan our resource library for content addressing motivation, growth mindset, self confidence, technology wellness, sleep, family and friend relations and many more issues families have to face in this modern world.

WY We Talk: resources to help have those difficult conversations addressing underage drinking, substance use and suicide.

Care Solace : is a free, confidential service that connects families to mental health providers and substance use treatment depending on personal, insurance and cultural needs. Parents can generate individual searches to connect to providers with the assistance of a care companion coordinator.

Staff Resources

Employee Assistance Program: Counseling options for staff members participating in district health insurance are eligible to participate in the Employee Assistance Program, that offers them 6 free sessions of talk therapy.

Headspace for Educators: an app resource provided by Headspace available for free to all district employees helps build self care skills by addressing stress management, teaching mindfulness and meditation, and building other self care concepts.

Character Strong

Character Strong is a Social Emotional Curriculum that supports students through the Districts MTSS plan on the Tier 1 level. This means all students receive these resources. Curriculum review can be coordinated through your child's schools guidance counselor.
